Josh Begley is 18 years old and has just finished Year 12 at St Joseph’s college, Ferntree Gully. On the morning that most of his mates are heading to Schoolies, he’s at his “home away from home” Pinnacle Health Club, settling the nerves before tomorrow when life as he knows it could change completely.

Josh is an exciting prospect in tomorrow’s 25th AFL Draft. Recent reports have suggested both Richmond and Adelaide have their sights on the strong inside midfielder who impressed Eastern Rangers this year after a sensational start to his senior footy career. In his first two games for Upper Ferntree Gully Josh kicked 6 and 7 goals respectively. At the same time, as Josh’s love for the game started to look as though it could turn into something more, he decided he needed to find a gym where he could push himself both mentally and physically off the field.

“Steve Moore (Pinnacle Coach & Eastern Rangers S&C Coordinator) told me to check out Pinnacle but I already knew it was a great gym because my sister had been a member for a while and was getting awesome results. So I pretty much joined on the spot. That was 6 months ago and since then I’ve spent at least 3 days a week at either the Scoresby or Upwey club during footy season and usually 5 days during off-season”.

Josh typically focuses on a strength-development program that Steve developed for him and, whilst the results speak for themselves (Josh has shed 5kgs of fat and improved his skin-folds exponentially, dropping from 80 to 55mm!), it’s the stuff you can’t see that has had the most impact on Josh.

“I actually didn’t know I had the strength to push myself as hard as I have. It has made me more confident in what I’m doing, both in the gym and on the footy field. I’ve learnt where my focus needs to be to get the very best out of my body.”

Whilst Josh confirms he’s never been in such great shape, he’s quick to move the focus from him to his support network.

“I come from a pretty sporty family; we’re all competitive, especially my older brother Daniel and I but it’s my mates who keep me on my toes. I don’t think I would go to the gym nearly as much if it weren’t for them. Whether we’re all trying to lift the most or just need some extra motivation, there’s nothing better than meeting a crew at the gym and working out together.”

So, what’s Josh’s advice for someone wanting to get in better shape?

“My advice for anyone searching for the sorts of results I’ve achieved at Pinnacle is to find likeminded gym buddies. They need to be people who will push you beyond your limits and that you feel confident to do the same for, but they also need to have your back and support you to do things the right way”.

Tomorrow, Josh will be surrounded by his biggest supporters as they tune into the AFL Draft from the family home. And whilst the passionate Geelong supporter’s ultimate dream would be to play for the Cats, he knows this is just a starting point.

“Whether it’s with an AFL club or not, there’s intense pre-season training ahead for me. I’m just grateful that Pinnacle, and all the people around me, have helped me be in peak condition to handle whatever comes my way.”

Join the Pinnacle Family as we tune in to the 2016 NAB AFL Draft (live on FOX FOOTY from 6.30pm tomorrow) to support this superstar!
